More details

Our club was founded by Brian Beard in 2003. We first met at Harman Cross Village Hall, then Corfe Castle British Legion and in 2009 we moved to Morton’s House Hotel. After the pandemic, we moved to our current home at Corfe Castle Village Hall. We currently have two teams competing in the Dorset League, our high current high point came in 2015-16 when the A-team won division 2.
We are a small, friendly club that meets at the Village Hall at Corfe Castle. Members enjoy both casual and competitive games, and we try to offer all players the chance to play competitive chess if they would like – but many of our members are happy to stick to casual games, sometimes with a bit of friendly banter!
Our members range from seasoned club players to those returning to chess after a long break and, increasingly, to a new generation of players who have discovered the joys of chess through the internet and the impact of the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit.  Ages range from 12 to over 80. We welcome juniors but they must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.
Beginners are welcome and we have a small chess library available to all, while our more experienced members are happy to give coaching to players who are learning and improving at the game. We also offer free teas, coffees and biscuits!  So why not come along and meet us and play a friendly game (or two)?
Our catchment area covers the Isle of Purbeck including Corfe Castle, Swanage, Studland, Harmans Cross, Worth Matravers, Langton Matravers, Wareham and Wool and we also have members from as far afield as Poole and Bournemouth.
You are welcome to visit the club for a chat and a friendly game to see how you get on. If you would like to know more before your visit, please contact our club secretary Steve Peirson. Should you wish to join membership runs annually from 1st September – adults £40.00 per annum, £20.00 PA for juniors. Alternatively, you can pay-as-you-go for £3.00 per night (£2.00 for juniors).
